CELEBRATE MOTHER’S DAY IN BURBANK

For over a century, we have set aside the second Sunday in May as a day to honor our mothers.  And waking up at The Tangerine to enjoy fresh croissants from Porto’s Bakery is an excellent start.  After that?  Start making memories!  The only limit is your imagination!

Studio Tours:

Did you love Friends?  A short walk from The Tangerine takes you to the Warner Brothers Studiowhere you can actually sit on their “reserved” couch in the midst of the Central Perk coffee shop set.  Or maybe you’re feeling a little nostalgic—The Tangerine’s retro feel will do that to you—and you’re in the mood to recapture a piece your childhood at Walt Disney Studios.  Go just a tad further and you can experience the thrills of the Universal Studios Tour.

Live Tapings:

Maybe you’ve always wanted to be part of “a live studio audience.”  If that’s on your bucket list, you might explore the possibility of getting tickets to see a live taping of one of your favorite shows.  Whether it’s a talk show, sitcom, or game show, studios always need bodies in seats!   The following is only a tiny sample of what’s taping live in the area.  Ellen, Conan, and The Big Bang Theory are taped at nearby Warner Brothers Studio.  The ever-popular Jeopardy is taped at the NBC studios in Burbank.  Information about getting tickets is available online.

Laugh a Little:

Flappers Comedy Club and Restaurant lets you have dinner and a laugh.   The club has played host to and enjoyed “drop ins” from some of the biggest names in comedy, including Jerry Seinfeld, Adam Sandler, and Kevin Hart.  The friendly, intimate club boasts easy parking, great food, and hilarity in abundance.

Retro Shopping:

No matter the weather, a shopping spree is always a possibility!  In keeping with The Tangerine’s vintage vibe, we’d love to suggest a few of our favorite spots to hunt for unique retro clothing.  All are located on Magnolia Boulevard, a treasure trove for lovers of yesterday’s fashions.

*Unique Vintage carries designs inspired by clothing of the 1930s on.

*Pinup Girl Boutique offers the experience of a 1950s era department store,   complete with hair and make-up styling.

*It’s A Wrap sells secondhand props and wardrobe pieces from movies and tv shows

*Playclothes Vintage Fashions carries period clothing and accessories for men and women, as well as home furnishings.  This shop has the distinction of having provided costumes for Mad Men.

Chandler Bikeway

What better way to make memories than to get outside and enjoy the famed California sunshine?  The Chandler Bikeway offers an easy ride along a 2.8 mile bike trail following the old Southern Pacific Railway line through Burbank.  The first two miles of the trail take you through a colorful, quaint neighborhood landscaped with flowers and citrus trees.   The final portion is dotted with murals and bronze statuary.

Treat Yourself to Something Cold:

Want to avoid the heavily populated Mother’s Day brunches and try something more fun?  Foster’s Freeze is a 1950’s era drive-in that has been chilling and delighting patrons since 1946.  For your more adventurous inner child, there’s always North Pole Snow Cream.  Try the Dragon’s Breath–liquid-nitrogen infused cereal puffs that leave you exhaling clouds of “smoke.”  Or, if you like your ice cream fried, Mex Cochina Café has you covered.

The Tangerine makes a lovely basecamp for the perfect Mother’s Day!  Have yourself a memorable day then make your way back for a good night’s sleep.
